Happy 4th of July!!
What a wonderful long weekend! I'm not sure why but 3 day weekends always seem to give me the extra boost and make the weekend much better! The feeling on Sunday, knowing you don't have to go to work the next day is such an energy kick that you're ready for anything! On the other hand, that extra day makes the weekend harder to remember when you come back to work and are ready to blog about it. So let's see...where to begin?
Friday afternoon, the boss let us leave at 12:30!!! I got to make it back to Waldorf from Crofton before the heavy traffic hit. I picked up the boys and made it home before General Hospital! I rearranged the living room and just enjoyed having the extra few hours in the afternoon with the boys. Peyton played outside and Jackson practiced his walking...he's still not an expert though. He can definitely walk...he just chooses not to. He's a very lazy little boy! The same went with crawling when it was time to do that. He just flat out decided that it was easier to roll places instead of crawling to them so he saved his trick to an "as needed" basis. I'm not worried about the walking. Now that I know he can do it, he can move around however he pleases.
Saturday, Chris went to our friend Ted's house to help him work on his boat "The Tiki Barge". Ted and his wife, Stephanie were taking the boat to the Capitol to watch the fireworks so he wanted to make sure the lights were working. The boys and I took a long walk in the morning and played on the playground for a while. I was supposed to go to a cookout at my cousin's house but Jackson took a late nap and the time just got away from us. I guess I needed that extra day to recover from the week :)
Walking to Mama
Yeah Yeah Yeah, I'll walk when I darn please!
Saturday night, Hawthorne Country Club set off fireworks and Chris and I watched them from the back porch. We could pretty much see everything! It reminded me of when we lived at our old house in Port Tobacco, we had the most amazing view I could ever dream of having right from our front porch. Every year on the 4th of July, Chris and I would sit on the front porch and watch 10-15 different fireworks displays across the river. I miss that view so much!
Sunday morning, Chris went to the store to get a few things for a cookout we were going to and picked up donuts. Jackson was in H-E-A-V-E-N.
We went to church and when we got back, we loaded up the car and headed to acookout at Chris's friend's house right around the corner from ours. There isn't much to say about the cookout so I'll just say...uh...Peyton had fun? They had a pool set up and there were other kids so he enjoyed himself swimming and eating really good hamburgers! Jackson chilled out in his stroller. It was really hot out and we all probably lost 10 lbs in sweat each! We headed home and Chris and Peyton got ready to go to the Blue Crabs game for the fireworks. Jackson and I decided to sit that one out. It was too late to have him out plus, he's not the fireworks type of guy. I was a little bummed about missing fireworks but I enjoyed having Mommy/Jax time so it made it all better! Jackson's newest trick is "TA DA!" When he does anything that he feels deserves applause, he throws his hands up and goes TAAAA DAAAA! He finished a bottle that evening and was carrying it around with him. I see him digging under a chair in the living room and realized he had stored a bottle there earlier in the day. So he pulls the other bottle out, looks from one bottle to the other and yells "TAAAAAAA DAAAAA!" I cracked up and gave him the applause he was seeking.
Chris and Peyton had a blast at the game! Peyton is baseball obsessed these days and he was tickled to be able to see a game in action! He was also tickled by the "Kids Zone" they had where he could play games and go down the huge slide.
I LOVE BASEBALL!
Enjoying his Skittles...a whole other story. A 5 year old + Sugar High at 9:00 at night = Finding him awake at 2:15 in the morning!!! WHAT WAS DADDY THINKING?!?!
The boys made it home about 10:45. My exciting news was that after Jax went to bed, I was laying in my bed watching a movie. All of the sudden, I see a flash outside my window through the blinds. I went over and opened the blinds, just in case and went and layed back in bed. Someone in Quailwood was setting off huge fireworks that looked professional. I didn't even have to leave my bed to watch the show! So not only did I get time with my Monkey just the two of us, I got to see the fireworks after all!
Yesterday, was the "long weekend" day. I was in a baking mood for some reason. Woke up quite early and cleaned the house while the boys were sleeping (obviously Peyton slept until nearly 9! A record for him!) and then ran to the store to get some supplies for baking. I started making cupcakes and brownies and was getting ready to start on my famous monkey bread (Chris's favorite) when Chris found Peyton's pool in the storage shed. We started pumping it up and filling it up and the boys and I got ready to do our ghetto swim outside. The whole time I kept thinking "I want to actually go swimming!". Like an answer to our prayers, we talked to Ted and Stephanie and they invited us over to swim! We took over some steaks we were marinating and the brownies I had made and spent the day there swimming and eating and having a wonderful time! Jackson is such a little fish...he's always been my water baby since he was born. He was in this raft thing but kept trying to swim out of it. It was so neat to go under water and see how his little legs and feet were constantly kicking! He'll be swimming before we know it...he's one with the water.
Peyton has always been very hesitant about water, ever since he was a baby. When he was born, he was completely silent and wouldn't cry. All the nurses, doctors and Chris and I were very worried. They whisked him away to the nursery to "work on him". Turns out he was just quite the chill baby...once they got him wet trying to clean him that's when he let the wide range of his lungs show! For the first 2 1/2-3 years of his life, bath time was always a disaster. He would cry and freak out whenever he got in the water and couldn't wait to get out. He's gotten better with baths but still hates getting water on his face and head. However, yesterday he was coming around. "Uncle" Ted, Mommy and Daddy all worked with his swimming and he is working a respectable doggie paddle now! He still has to wear his water wings (or "swimmies" as I've always called them) but he was doing great and I was so proud of him!
Once we got home, everyone crashed. It was a long day with no naps for the boys and you could definitely tell! Everyone was in bed by 7:30! It was a long weekend but spent just the way I enjoy spending the rest of my weekends...w/ my guys.
Have a great week!!!!
