The Wii wizard...
Last week was a blur..work, home, work, home, work, home. I did get a chance to slip out for a couple of hours on Thursday night to celebrate Lexi's 16th birthday at the Greene Turtle with the Cox family! They have always been my second family and I had a great time catching up with all of them and laughing at their hilarious stories. So much fun! Friday night, Amanda and her sister Lexi came over. They pulled up blasting the Jersey shore soundtrack (side note: It comes back this week! Color me fake tanned, I'm so excited! GTL BABY!) and the three of us sat around for a while chatting, watching youtube videos (Amanda tortured us with old "So You Think You Can Dance" videos) and having a great time. Jackson was excited cause he got to hang out with his girlfriend, Lexi.
He's so funny wheneve she's around. I thought it was too early for a crush but whenever Lex is around, Jackson literally swoons.
Saturday, I ran out early to the grocery store to stock up but really the boys and I just hung out and tried to avoid the heat. Saturday night, Chris and I enjoyed a few drinks and sat around listening to old school music. Before we put the boys to bed, we had a good old fashioned family dance party! Peyton schooled me in the twist. I have no idea WHERE he learned the twist but he taught me a thing or two! That kid is a dancing fool! We had some old school hip-hop on and all of the sudden Bubba broke out a break dance! All the flips and gyrations he was doing left us staring at him with our mouths wide open like "WHAT THE???" He surprises me every day.
Sunday morning I gave the boys their baths and then we headed to church....and hurried home to avoid...what else? THE HEAT! I wasn't feeling too good, I think I'm coming down with a cold. I took a two hour nap and was still tired! The boys napped with me and Chris enjoyed the peace and quiet! That storm that came through really helped though as far as the heat went...we didn't get it as bad as up north did. Driving through Crofton this morning, there are sooo many trees down, leaves and branches everywhere and the traffic lights on Rt 3 are all out. I'm glad we got the "cool off" rain in Quailwood without all the side effects! I went to bed pretty early hoping to sleep off the start of this cold...but woke this morning still feeling terrible! Hopefully it hurries up and gets over with! Mommies can't afford to be sick!
I watched a Dateline last night (you all know what a Dateline junkie I am!) that I feel like everyone should watch. It was about how the recession has hit the smaller areas of this country. It was heartbreaking to see but it definitely put things in to perspective. Here in the DC area, we haven't seen the recession nearly as bad as other parts of the country. Sure, there are people out of work and prices are killing us-like with everyone. But in the smaller, less populated areas that aren't government centric like around here, people are truly struggling! If you can, look it up online and watch...it definitely makes you thankful for the blessings in your life and gets you to stop feeling sorry for yourself. We are blessed to live where we do and have the opportunities afforded to us. Hopefully, this thing turns itself around soon and things change for the better (especially in Ohio where this story was based). If you can, please donate to a food bank...some of the people featured relied up to 90% monthly on food banks to feed their children, the other 10% from food stamps. Change starts with all of us. If you can't, just take the time to realize you don't have it as bad as you think you do. I always tell Chris "No matter how bad you think you have it, there's someone else out there who has it MUCH worse". So stop complaining and help others who are less fortunate! It's good for the soul!
Enough of my preaching...this is a short week for me! I took Wednesday through Friday off...much needed mental health days. I wish I was going some place fabulous but a staycation is going to do me just fine! Hopefully, I'll get a date day with both of the boys. Wednesday, Jackson has a doctor's appointment (just a check up and shots) but I may take him to lunch just the two of us afterwards. Thursday, I'm thinking that Peyton and I will go see "Despicable Me" and maybe to get him a toy or something. He's been saving and saving and saving money in his piggy bank so I think I'll let him "cash" the money in and pick out something for himself. Just so he can see the importance of saving money and how it leads to great things! Then Thursday night, Jersey Shore comes back on! I looove the Situation! Friday, I think I'm already planning an all day jammy jam and movie day with my babies. I love having extra days off and trust me, I need this "stay"cation!!! Hope everyone has a wonderful week!!! Stay cool!
Poor Ice Cream Truck :(
GTL!
