Catastrophe

It's been a while since I've posted anything (due to the lack of camera, lack of time and lack of inspiration) but I figured I needed to document the latest catastrophe that having rough and tumble little boys has brought me as a Mommy.

Yesterday when I got to daycare, my provider told me Jackson had a mouth bleed earlier in the day. He had gotten hit in the mouth with the teeter totter. She told me that it bled a lot but he refused to let her see inside his mouth, he kept telling her he bit his tongue. I asked him about it and he told me the same thing. As a Mother of two crazy boys, I'm no stranger to mouth bleeds so I didn't think too much of it. He was kind of hiding his mouth from me and I figured when we got home I could do a thorough inspection while bribing him with whatever sweet would get him to agree.

On the way to the bus stop, he kept saying he was thirsty. I figured that a mouth bleed and just waking up from a nap would explain this...you know that nasty taste that gets in your mouth after a bleed. I gave him a few sips of my drink but it was caffeinated so I didn't want him to have too much. Taking the drink back lead to a major meltdown.

When we got to the bus stop, I turned around to loosen his straps on his car seat. He looked at me lovingly and said "Thank you Mommy. I love you". Then he flashed a big smile at me...and I saw it.

Yup. His tooth was knocked out. A frantic phone call to the husband, daycare and the dentist ended with us zipping to Neibauer in La Plata as soon as Peyton got off the bus. They were WONDERFUL there, I highly recommend. They saw my panic and went above and beyond in keeping me calm and reassured.

In the end, there is nothing that can be done. He will be without his front top tooth for the next 3-4 years until the permanent tooth grows in. At that point, we're going to have to put him in braces. He was such a trooper through the process, being wonderful for the dentist and not giving any kind of fit when she was poking around in his mouth (that is thanks to a kind Dentist and Hygenist...with a little bit of help from Dora on his personal TV in his chair).

He looks adorkable, just like a Romine should. It still hurts my heart and frustrates me to the max-the series of fails that happened yesterday. But in the end, there was nothing that could have been done for him anyway. The thing came clear out...and it seems that he swallowed it.

To recap, Peyton lost his first tooth on September 18, 2011 at 6 years old. Jackson...lost his at three years old (barely) by a fluke accident.

Oy.
